Turf Health During Drought

I’ve been focused on maintaining optimal turf health as we’re entering a dry spell here in the Midwest. One method I find effective is using a moisture meter to ensure I’m not over-watering and the grass roots are encouraged to grow deeper. How are others handling turf care in similar conditions?

Using a moisture meter is smart! I’ve found applying a light layer of mulch helps retain moisture too. How deep are you seeing those roots get?

But i’ve found that aerating the soil can really help, especially if the ground’s compacted from heat and lack of water. It encourages deeper root growth, and I usually see roots going 4–6 inches down after a couple of weeks. How often are you checking your moisture levels?

I’ve had good luck with using a simple compost tea to give the turf an extra boost during droughts — it helps with not just moisture retention but also nutrient availability. Are you considering trying any organic options?
